Why should I epoxy my garage floor?

Garage Before and AfterOn nearly every estimate we attend, our sales team is usually presented with the same question – Why should I epoxy my garage floor? And every time, we provide the same 3 points for the customer to consider:

  • Aesthetics – Unless your home is a new construction or you’ve had new concrete poured – chances are your garage floor is starting to look a little…. used. Staining from oil or other chemicals, spilled paint, salt marks, rust, dirt, grime…you name it, no surface of your home is going to take more of a beating than your garage floor. When the walls of your home are looking aged and tired, you paint them. When your carpet is getting worn down, you’ll install new carpet. When your appliances begin to fail in your home, you’ll swap them out. Why does your garage have to suffer while the rest of your home gets to look all shiny and new? By installing a new epoxy floor, you can help revitalize what is more than likely the most overlooked room of your home, creating an environment you can be proud of – as opposed to just an area to park your car and all the items you can’t fit in the house.
  • Cleanliness – As mentioned above – name a surface of your home that gets dirtier than your garage floor? Go ahead…we’ll wait. While a few of us will power wash or scrub our garage floors once or twice a year – the majority of homeowners don’t pay any attention to those surfaces, let alone clean them with any regularity. And when the time does come to actually clean the garage floor – how clean do you actually get it? A professionally installed epoxy floor is very easy to clean and maintain. With just a quick spray of the hose or a little water and vinegar – those tire marks and dirt that has accumulated on your floor will clean right off with a professionally installed epoxy finish. No more staring at unsightly tread marks, stains or dirt piles on your floor. The hard, resinous nature of an epoxy floor makes the surface remarkably easy to keep clean and trust us…your garage will thank you in the long run!
  • Longevity – What is probably the MOST important reason anyone would ever want to apply an epoxy coating to their garage floor – they want it to last. Here in the Chicagoland area, the major threat to all concrete garage floors is salt…good old ice melting, concrete degrading salt. In just one to two winter seasons – even the newest of garage floors will begin to show signs of degradation due to salt and other particulate working their way into the substrate. Every time you twist your tires as you back out of the garage, you’re creating opportunities for salt and debris to penetrate the concrete and start causing pits, divots, cracks etc. A professional, well installed epoxy floor can help prevent that damage from happening before it even starts. With a well bonded coating, salt and other materials cannot penetrate into the substrate, keep the floor free of divots and cracking that will develop over time. You can expect 15-20 years of protection with a properly installed epoxy floor.

Everyone will have their own reasons for wanting to re-do their garage space.
