Damaged Garage FlooringIt’s no secret that there are many different companies throughout the Chicagoland area that claim to be professionals when it comes the installation of flooring for your home, whether it be your garage, basement or other surfaces inside your residence. The average consumer typically will do their due diligence when it comes to choosing the right company for them. They’ll solicit references, check online for information about the company, read the reviews, etc. But even after all the proper steps have been followed – it happens from time to time that you’ll find yourself regretting the choice you made for a particular contractor you’ve hired. Maybe they take your deposit and vanish off the face of the earth. Maybe the product they installed is inferior and fails in a short amount of time. It’s even possible you’ll find the work they did is sloppy and inconsistent with what you view as a professional job. We’ve encountered all sorts of scenarios where we’ve come had to come in and save the day for a customer who fell victim to one or more of these issues.

Just this past fall, our offices received a call from a customer in Wilmette, IL who found themselves in a predicament after hiring what they believed to be a reputable company to resurface their garage floor. The previous company attempted to install troweled concrete overlay over a badly degrading garage floor. After the work was completed – the homeowner had serious doubts about the integrity of the floor as well as the final finish. In a very short time after the floor was installed, the overlay began chipping away, exposing the original floor in large patches. At their wits end and not sure how to rectify the matter, this customer reached out to Broadleaf. Right away our estimator identified the failure of the previous system. The floor was not prepped properly prior to the installation of the overlay. The application was hastily done with no care paid to the texturing. Overall – it was a nightmare. Fortunately, Broadleaf was up to the challenge and ready to save the day! The most essential step that had to take place first was the complete removal of the poorly installed overlay. Then – with some quick patching to the existing substrate, Broadleaf was able to install a brand new Mini Flake floor to help provide the customer with the results they were looking for to begin with. While the whole ordeal took the homeowner weeks to get the floors to a livable standard, Broadleaf was in and out in just two days!

Repaired Garage FloorsThe moral of this story is to be sure to always due your research on the companies you hire to complete tasks around your home.
